Shelters, Temporary Construction Shelters and Portable Construction
Tents
Weather delays and worker productivity greatly impact
a contractor's bottom line - and Mahaffey's temporary construction
shelters and portable construction tents address both of these
issues. Worker productivity is boosted when the work can be
completed in conditions made comfortable by heating or air
conditioning, in shaded environments and without the threat
of inclement weather. In addition, on-time completion of the
project is more likely when it is protected from harsh weather
by a Mahaffey temporary construction shelters. Fewer work
stoppages mean you avoid penalties for delays or might earn
an early completion bonus.
Mahaffey has provided construction shelters for concrete pours, installing footings & plumbing, and covering masonry work to protect it from wind, rain, and cold. This is especially important during winter conditions to maintain proper curing, as well as keeping the crews working regardless of the weather outside. In some cases, whole buildings have been constructed under a Mahaffey construction shelter, after which it is lifted away by a crane. In other cases, Mahaffey has covered excavation sites to prevent the "hole" from filling with water. This eliminates the need for sump pumps to drain away the water and more crew delays waiting for everything to dry out.
Some forward-thinking contractors budget Mahaffey
construction shelters into their projects before bad weather
becomes a troublesome issue. For example, Mahaffey set up
a 100' x 132' structure at the Honda Manufacturing plant during
its construction in Lincoln, Alabama. This construction shelter
covered the site of the "paint pit". After being excavated
to a depth of 30', forms were installed, intricate piping
completed, and finally
concrete was poured and cured. Upon completion of the project
3 months later, the temporary construction shelter was disassembled
and lifted away by crane.
Construction shelters can also be used to cover large industrial tanks. These tank covers facilitate sand blasting and recoating, especially for applications where a controlled curing environment is necessary. Some applications require a roof only, allowing unimpeded airflow on the site. Others must be fully enclosed to control the interior temperature and humidity. Mahaffey offers HVAC and works with qualified subcontractors for specialized needs.
In addition to covering actual construction sites, our construction shelters serve as temporary warehouses to secure supplies from theft on big jobsites, as shelter for sensitive equipment that arrives early, and as protection from weather-sensitive components such as insulation material. Some of our customers appreciate our turnkey service, and order a temporary warehouse when beginning each of their projects. Others accept the responsibilities of ownership and choose to purchase (or more often lease-purchase) a portable structure. |
